Gentle Finance

Your bills, and what we do with them.

What we collect, where it goes, and how to get rid of it.

Last updated 23 July 2026.

Everything we take

When you send us bills, we receive:

  • The bills themselves, as you upload them
  • Your email, so we can send the proposal
  • Your phone number, if you give it, for a quick question
  • Whether you told us you're the account holder
  • The original filenames of what you sent
  • The date, and which page you came from
  • Your browser's user agent, the standard line every website receives

That's the list.

If you only joined the list, we have your email and your answer to the one question we asked. Nothing else.

Where your bills sit

Your files go into private storage.

  • We rename every file the moment it arrives. What you called it is kept separately from the file itself.
  • No shareable link to your bill exists. We never create one, so there is none to leak or forward.
  • Opening one of your bills requires a password only we have, and the file is read straight from storage, never published to a web address.

Even our own alerts are blank

When you send bills, we get a notification so we know to start work. That notification says a submission arrived and how many files. It does not contain your name, your email, your phone number, or your bill.

Details sitting in an inbox or a phone notification are details in one more place they don't need to be.

We delete your files

We delete your bills as soon as we're done with them. If you want them gone sooner, just email us. We won't ask why.

How we make money, and how we don't

You pay us $9 for each bill we successfully lower. If we can't lower it, you pay nothing.

That's the entire business. We don't sell your data, we've never sold it, and no provider pays us to steer you toward them. When we tell you a cheaper plan is the better one, the only thing we get out of it is the $9 you already agreed to.

What we count on this site

We count page views and four actions: clicking through, giving your email, answering our one question, and sending bills. That is how we tell whether any of this is working.

We don't set a cookie. The little we store is cleared when you close the tab. We don't record your screen, and we don't follow you to other websites. If your browser sends Do Not Track, we honor it.

Who else touches this

A few services do specific jobs for us:

  • Railway hosts the site, stores your files, and runs the database.
  • Resend sends the alert telling us a submission arrived. It contains nothing about you.
  • ntfy sends that same alert to a phone.
  • PostHog counts the page views and actions above.

That's the whole list.

Getting your data out, or gone

Email us at [email protected] and you can:

  • See everything we hold about you
  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Have all of it deleted, files and record together

We'll do it, and we'll confirm when it's done.

The rest

We don't knowingly collect anything from children under 13, and this isn't a service for them.

If we change this policy we'll change the date at the top and say what changed.

Questions about any of this go to the same address. A person answers.
